Interesting note:
During this period, even though Larry was using what appeared to be a 14"
double headed tom, it was essentially a single headed drum. While the rim and a drum head were affixed to the drum, the drum
head was cut leaving a 12" hole in a 14" drum head.
Perhaps, Larry still preferred the idea/tone/sound produced by a single
headed drum - similar to his Tama FiberStars.
Another benefit is the easy placement of a microphone on a boom inside the
drum from the bottom 12" opening.
